Tuesday's Extra Credit Question: The Giver
The name Jonas is a variation of the name Jonah. In the Bible, the prophet Jonah was commissioned by the Lord to proclaim judgment upon a sinful city. Why might Lois Lowry have chosen Jonas a the name of her main character?

I think that the author might have named the main charecter Jonas because he was supposed to be intelligent. He got the asssignment of the "Reciever of Memory" which puts a powerful and smart addition to the charecter Jonas. Also I think the authour chose this name because it makes Jonas seem like a holy or positive person which I kind of think he is form just reading the book.
I think that the author might haved used the name Jonas because she wanted to relate it to Jonah which meant to proclaim that he could over come difficultly. Which tells you that he is a very persevance person. Also it adds personality to Jonas as a character.
I think the author did because he is a religious person like when he mention the apple that what gave Knowledge like in bible told us on how eating gave knowledge and was a sin.
I think that the author might have named Jonas after the Prophet Jonah, because Jonas is the Receiver, and he wants Utopia to have memories, and he thinks that the methods that Utopia are using are not correct. I also think that the author wants to relate Jonas to Jonah because, Jonas overcame harsh times just like Jonah.I think the author wants the readers to relate Jonas to Jonah, because they both had similar journeys.
